warning. you see the tropical storm warnings through the new england coast and also in to parts of canada. so ocean city not getting it too bad. virginia beach not too bad. one area that got hit last night is kill devil hills, north carolina. phillip jones is down there. how are things now and tell me what sort of damage occurred. >> reporter: right new things are looking better than few hours ago. earl's swirl hear did have an affect. we can show you damage at a shell gas station here. the wind taking the canopy off of the top of the gas station and pushing it in to the building next door. we saw about six hours worth of strong, sustained winds an driving rain that left some roads flood an canopies knocked over. the storm surge got up to the dunes and in some locations flooded some roads. overall, there have been very few reports of serious damage. there is no widespread power outage at any point an no widespread reports of serious damage and we haven't heard anything about any injuries. the mandatory evacuations issued up and down the outer banks have been lifted at noon today. tourists

to canada as this category 3 storm draws closer. but forecasters now say the storms should weak ton a category 2 by the time it scrapes up against north carolina's outer banks later tonight and possibly down to a category 1 when it goes by or into massachusetts. nasa now has provided a new image of earl. the space agency reports it took this shot, just after midnight eastern time today and even though earl has lost some of the power since then, you can still get a sense of how enormous this storm is. hours ago, north carolina's governor warned folks in the storm's path it's time to evacuate because in her words, better safe than sorry. >> let me make this very clear to the people of north carolina. once the storm comes in, and it becomes serious, once it is at its worst point, we are not going to put any emergency worker in harm's way. and so if you think there is going to be a problem, evacuate now, but there will be nobody to answer that phone or to come up physically to your house from your local area until the brunt of the storm passes. >> shepard: and a lot of north carolinaens

morning. the consumer products safety commission an canada are announcing these recalls, a lot of fisher-price brand name items here. we begin with 7 million fisher-price trikes and tough trikes sold in the u.s. and canada. the trikes have a protruding plastic key known to cause injury to children's genitals. they are intended for children between the ages of 2 and 5, sold from january of '97 through september 2010. if you have one, fisher-price will replace that key. also replacing more than a million healthy care, easy clean and close to me high chairs. there are pegs on the back of the legs meant for storage and reports of at least 14 children being injured after falling on or against those pegs. fisher-price recalling more than 3 million infant toys sold under a number of names, baby play zone, gymnastics, ocean wonders, a choking hazard there and 120,000 little people wheelies because they can come off and cause a choking hazard. fisher-price this morning said it wants to assure its customers its products are overwhelmingly safe. we talked to the consumer products commission chairma

. hurricane and tropical storm warnings have been issued from north carolina to as far north as canada. >> for the latest on hurricane earl, the projected path, we'll go to meteorologist doug. >> we just got the latest. the winds have dropped. now down to 115 miles an hour, making it a minimal category 3 storm. this is a live shot. down at wrightsville beach, psych a little angry owing there but not too bad. the eye of the storm should pass just off the coast in about the next six to eight hours. that is when thing should start to go downhill. tow next couple hours we'll see this picture change dramatically. something else that has changed, the storm itself. last night around 11:00, it really looked like an amazingly strong storm. winds of 145 miles per hour. now those winds are down to only 115 miles per hour and it's expected to continue to weaken as it makes its way toward the north. the latest brand new track brings it off the coast of north carolina as a category 2. off our coastline as well by a category 2 as well. we could see some of the biggest concerns around our region. once
